Today we celebrate ‘Bevrijdingsdag’ (Freedom Day) in the Netherlands, it is the day the Netherlands were officially freed from the Nazi’s on 05 May 1945.
Reflecting on the freedom we now have and thinking about the current wars in the world it seems knowing history is not enough to learn how to be more peaceful as a human family.
My personal belief is that the only way to achieve lasting peace is that all of us need to start working on our state of mind. Real peace can only come from within, when we are trying to overcome our own demons..
For todays drawings I used close ups of a drawing the kids and I made a while ago with gel-wax kids crayons and some stamps and then added the digital layer on top:
It’s not just numbers..it’s real lives that are being destroyed, when will that sink in with those who are ‘in power’?
This video below shows the sickening reality about arms trade and the money that is being made in war:
I will leave you with this excellent talk below.
In war we often see only the frontline stories of soldiers and combat. AT TEDGlobal 2010, Zainab Salbi founder of Women for Women International tells powerful “backline” stories of women who keep everyday life going during conflicts, and calls for women to have a place at the negotiating table once fighting is over.
Thanks so much for visiting my blog, I will see you again on Monday!
Love, Salam (Peace)
